In periyazhwar thirumozhi 2-1-3, azhwar describes the kaaliyan episode as follows:
காயும்நீர் புக்குக் கடம்பேறி - காளியன்
தீய பணத்தில் சிலம்பார்க்கப் பாய்ந்தாடி
There is an ithihyam between bhattar and nanjeeyar. Nanjeeyar asked thus. Krishna climbed the tree before jumping on Kaaliyan. How did Krishna climb the tree near the pond which was sullied by the poison of Kaliya? Since the poison was so intense, everything in that area was dead and rotten. The tree also would have collapsed when Krishna tried climbing up. Bhattar responded thus...before climbing the tree, Krishna would have looked at the tree and it would have sprouted back to life or when he laid his feet to climb up, it would have sprouted back to life.
So bhagavan's thiruvadi brings everything to life or sustains what is alive. Similarly when Uththara's unborn son was impacted and burnt inside her womb due to asvathamas astra, "parikshit" was brought to life when bhagavan touched the burnt out fetus with his feet. Of course, his feet is also tender as தளிர் refers to tender as well as a sprout (http://tinyurl.com/pd7bon2)
ஆகையால் மென்மையான தளிர்ப்பிக்கும் திருவடி .... even Mahabali went down to paathala rather than die due to the grace of thiruvadi.

பொன்னலர்ந்த நறும் செருந்திப் பொழிலினூடே புனலரங்கம் ஊரென்று போயினாரே!
Periya Perumal returns to arangam after meeting parakala nayaki in thiruvali thirunagari and the entire route back to thiruvarangam is green, fertile and lush. How did it get so? Again bhattar responded - காளமேகம் போன்ற எம்பெருமான் தன் அருளைப் பொழிந்துக் கொண்டு செல்லும் போது கண்டவிடமெல்லாம் தளிரும் முறியுமாய் சோலையாக இருக்காதோ?
Such is the prabhavam of emperuman. But our beloved kaliyan says even his thiruvadi was dried up and dessicated.

தளிர் புரையும் திருவடி என் தலை மேலவே!
இந்த கலியனான திருமங்கை ஆழ்வார் கிடைக்க பெறாத பொது, வாடி இருந்த திருவடி, இவர் கிடைத்தவுடன் தளிர் புரையும் திருவடியாகியது.
