Neither here Nor there - We are the kings!!

This has reference to the smaller Thandagam of Kaliyan (திருக்குறுந்தாண்டகம் ) song 17.


If we recall, the context for Thirukkurunthaandagam is as follows. At the end of Periya Thirumozhi, Bhagavaan shows the temporary and distracting nature of this life (leelavibuthi) to convince Azhwar to seek Paramapadam (This azhwar preferred Divya desams to Paramapadam). Due to that, he started beseeching perumal to take him away (மாற்றமுள). Post that he was overcome by divine thirst and started enjoying bhagavan's kalyana gunaas in this work.

பேசினார் பிறவி நீத்தார் பேருளான் பெருமை பேசி  - (அப்பக்குடத்தான் ) - Those who sang in praise of perumal obtained the veedu/Paramapadham.

ஏசினார் உய்ந்து போனார் என்பதிவ்வுலகின் வண்ணம்  - Even those who were against perumal reached his abode ... e.g Kamsa, Sisupala, ravanaas!!

பேசினேன் ஏச மாட்டேன் பேதையேன்  - I did speak of his glory. Here Azhwar is being sarcastic. He is basically saying I am not at all qualified to sing his praises.So he cannot get paramapadham by this route. But I cannot also take the opposite route as I cannot oppose perumal.

So both the routes described in sastraas are out of my reach. However

பிறவி நீத்தர்க்கு ஆசையோ பெரிது கொள்க அலை கடல் வண்ணர் பால்  - my desire to reach him so so high. What can I do?

மாறன் பணித்த தமிழ் மறைக்கு ஆறங்கம் உரைத்த மங்கையர் கோன் is debasing himself to say he is not qualified to talk of his glory.

He says he is neither with the folks who go to paramapadham by singing his glory nor is he with those who oppose perumal to go to paramapatham.

Given this, lets see how we stack up :-)

For the sake of completing this blog lets keep the issues related to core belief itself out of purview. Every day and every hour is a different distraction. Ability to focus attention varies and reduces as time passes by. Even if we participate in a bhagavath, Bhaagavatha kainkaryam, the intensity , effort and focus is not the same. Sometimes we do get away to do "have a life" things :-).

In between all this, we also play the one up game on others. Even if follow a small percent of what we are supposed to comply ( or even pretend to comply or follow), we immediately jump to point at others who may or may not be following certain things that we do (forgetting that they may be doing other things that we dont). The focus is just on showcasing "holier than thou" ... violating the above spirit of azhwar. This has been shown umpteen times in different pasurams particularly so in நானேதான் ஆயிடுக .

So truly we are the ones who are neither here nor there and we don't need to debase to attain that state. Thats our nature and DNA :-) Needless to say, WE ARE THE KINGS (of pretense, disbelief, lack of focus, self aggrandizement so on and so forth). As I heard in a upanyasam... you can't measure perumal's glories and so can't you measure ours. His because its infinite and ours because it is non existent!!

    We need to rectify to become true disciple of Ramanuja..then only there is hope

  3. மாறன் பணித்த தமிழ் மறைக்கு ஆறங்கம் உரைத்த மங்கையர் கோன் is debasing himself to say he is not qualified to talk of his glory, even though Aazhwar in Peria Thiruvandhadhi (38) advised (his heart- Kaliyan indirectly) to spend the time speaking ill of being bound by Yasodha for stealing Butter as அலை கடல் வண்ணர் பால் ஆசை would not allow to remain silent to get rid of the iru val vinaigal to reach Kalangap peru nagaram to do kaingaryam without Kalakkam experienced in this world.
