In any field, getting acknowledged as a peer or even better by an expert is a much prized possession. So this blog explores a slightly different situation where a true "Master Thief" acknowledges someone else to be even better than him ;-)
Now that I have said Master Thief, you should have guessed who that is... none other than our Kaliyan ( திருமங்கை மன்னன்). The pasuram in question is a follow up to நைவளம் ( Refer Blog post - Revisiting ... Naivalam)
To recall, in Naivalam, Perumal says he is from Tiruvali (Tiruvali is where Parakala Nayaki's foot touches the ground) and leaves her.
Conversation between Parakala Nayaki and her friend (தோழி) continues. When perumal (owner of both the celestial and mortal worlds) came to visit his Nayaki, what prize or gift did he give her?
உள்ளூரும் சிந்தை நோய் எனக்கே தந்து - He basically gave me this disease!! Normally when there is a disease thats visible outside, it can be easily cured. This is உள்ளே இருக்கும் நோய் . Even if a disease is inside if its in one place inside, a surgery can be done. ஆனால் இது உள்ளூரும் - like a snake it moves all around. Very interesting analogy in the commentary. Its a disease like cancer!!! and its சிந்தை நோய். It wont go away by crying or consolation by relatives or can even be defined!! Thats what I got as a gift.
And on top of that, என் ஒளி வளையும் மாநிறமும் கொண்டார் - I had just two things with myself for consolation. He took those too (Master Thief). When he was with me, he used to say "How beautiful and glorious your bangles are? When they are in your hands, they glow because of your color and splendor". Since he liked them so much, I ended up liking my bangles and my own color/splendor.
Flash of Azhwar reverting back to his true form from being Parkala Nayaki. In this திருமணங் கொல்லை where I was waiting to waylay other rich folks, he came and took away my வளை and மாநிறம் . மாநிறம் is not what we use in our speech. This is used as a superlative. Great or beautiful or beyond compare color of Parakala nayaki.
So Perumal came and became கள்வா to Azhwar to take away his belongings.
Finally, friend asks if Parakala Nayaki asked perumal to "not leave", she replies that she did. But before she could say that, Garuda told perumal that "the job is done and so we should leave" ;-)
Even when Nayakan leaves her, Nayaki does not blame him. She tries to explain it away on others. This leads to the next blog post with an interesting episode in history from the commentaries.
