This is how a real lady gets what she wants!!

In the "A tale of two ladies and their mothers worries", we have seen how the two "pseudo" ladies (Parangusa and Parakala Nayakis) expressed their situation via their mother.

In Parangusa Nayaki's case, she is very clear in her mind where her lover resides and was sure to reach his place  on her own. In Parakala Nayaki's case, her lover came and took her away resulting in her mother worrying about whether they would have gone to Tiruvali safely!

It is very clear that these two Azhwaar's get into the Nayaki mode due to their longing and desire (which seems to get no attention from Purushotthama).

Lets see what a real lady does in such a case. She does not wander off on her own (like Parangusa Nayaki) nor says she got dragged by her lover!! The decad thats in question is the நாச்சியார் திருமொழி - 12th.

ஆண்டாள் is in the same state. All her appeals to திருவரங்கன் in the previous decad has not produced results and her desire is unfulfilled. Overcome by despair, she is lost. She does not even have strength to go and find him. So she requests her well wishers for their help in taking her to her lover!!

"It will be not just me but our entire clan that will suffer from the bad reputation. People will think that when parents and other relatives are there, instead of getting her needs and wishes through them, she ended up going by herself. (தான் தோன்றியாக ). Once that happens, you cannot do anything to fix it post mortem. Its better for you to take care of my wishes now. So please dont abandon me to go on my own. Take me to Nandhagopa's place."

But why is she pushed to going on her own ignoring her parents? It is because மாயவன் வந்து உரு காட்டுகின்றான். When he shows himself to you, I am lost and out of control. Don't you realize that when he plays his flute, all the gopikaas ignored everything else and ran to him.

And why Nandhagopa's palace? This is similar to all patients lying before a hospital or a doctor's office. All the gopikaas (and Aandaal) are "sick" with Krishna Bakthi and have to be at Nandhagopa's palace to be cured!!!

PS: In the absence of formal study of scriptures, you discover gems one by one by accident (or is it?). This post got triggered by our visit to the Pomona temple for the Adhyayana Utsavam. The seva kalam on that day was for Thiruppavai and Nachiyaar Thirumozhi.

  1. One has to remember that Andal is not counted in Azhwar's Ghoshti but as Sishyai of Sri Periyazhwar, like Madhurakavi and Ethirajar, in terms of Upadesaratna malai. Then she would not dare to go on her own, but plead to her Acharya, Sri Periazhwar who happens to be her fostering mother too. Villiputthur vishnu chiththar thangal thevarai varuvipparel athu kaandume. Andal is able to perceive Periyazhwar and therefore pleads, like chinthayanthi who having started stood back on seeing her parents, while another one became blind and led by that darkness reached Krishna.
