Ideal Nayaki !

In the previous post, even when Perumal left her, Parakala Nayaki was not willing to blame him .She basically told her friend that Garuda was the one who made Perumal leave.

The discussion continues with her friend. The question now is this. பெரிய திருவடி (Garudazhwar) is the primary servant for Perumal and so is actually related to Parakala Nayaki. So why did not Parakala Nayaki appeal to Garudazhwar to make Perumal stay? This is the core of the next pasuram in the sequence  இருகையில்  சங்கு இவை நில்லா .

Parakala Nayaki responds that if it was just Garudazhwar, it would have worked. But all the Nitya suris surrounded Perumal and Perumal was unreachable as per his supreme form. So I could not do anything but let him go.

So basically stage is set for Parakala Nayaki to be desolate and sings the next pasuram.

Parakala Nayaki is basically saying that, he came with all his splendor and glory, only to take all my splendor and glory :-(. என் நலனும், என் நிறைவும், என் சிந்தையும், என் வளையும் கொண்டு !!

A very interesting narration is provided in the commentaries for this pasuram. In வாழ்வும் வாக்கும் , Sri U.Ve. MAV Swami has collated this as part of his extensive work.

There was a Chola king named Vikram Chola devan. He appreciated Tamil literature and had many scholars in his court. One day, he asked both Shaivite and Vaishnavite scholars in his court to elucidate examples of situations where Nayaki talks about Nayakan when he has left her from their respective Bakthi literature. The Shaivite scholar referred to one of the songs and said that the Nayaki in their literature referred to Nayakan as the one who has எலும்பும் , சாம்பலும்.  The Vaishnavite scholar quoted the above song by Azhwar and said that Nayaki refers to Nayakan as மின்னிலங்கு திருவுருவும் . The Chola king celebrated Parakala Nayaki as the supreme Nayaki because even when she is sad and desolate, she is referring to her Nayakan as the one who has a brilliant appearance like a lightning!

The full commentary should be read to fully appreciate the beauty of the words, meaning and the deep philosophy underlying the pasuram.

  1. Remember in this Panguni Brahmotsavam, Vayalaali Manaalan rides on Garudan (Garuda Vahanam) while Kavim Loka Dhivakarar rides on Surya Prabhai, to match the Glory of VM. Yet Garudan so helpless, that he, as in the cases of Thirunaraiyur, Thiruvillipuththur and Thiruvarangam, allows the VM to win over KLD as His own, leaving KLD to ponder over what happened,
