Of Charama slokas, Nammazhwar and Kaliyan - An anubhavam

Another quick day trip using the one day I got as reprieve to Thiruvali/Thirunagari and Annan koil. So I had to use the short time available to hear the short  insights from the acharya purushas. I requested Shri UVe Embar Aali swamin for a short snippet. Immediately (as its always the case), he outlined one of his memories of the melathirumaligai UVe Embar Sadagopacharya swami. Pasuram in question is from Periya Thiruvandadhi 53

A quick reference to the vyakyanam goes as follows: Azhwar wants to convey one key message to perumal.  (ஒன்றுண்டு). You are always thinking of what to do to your adiyaars. That very thought is sweeter than the vaikuntham that you will bestow later. Can there be anything else that's sweeter than your thought for us?

But perumal is all-knowing. So why should Azhwar convey anything to him? Perumals affection and compassion for us actually blinds him to this fact. So azhwar has to express this to him. (Reference to how draupadi's shout for his help still reverberates in his mind  even when perumal completes his avatar - he still felt like leaving with an unpaid debt)

However Embar swamis anubhavam went as follows:

ஒன்றுண்டு - மாம் ஏகம் சரணம் வ்ரஜ 

என் செய்வன் என்றே இருத்தி - ததாம் எதத் வ்ரதம் மம

தம் சிந்தையிலும் மற்றினிதோ  - அஹம் ஸ்மராமி 

So Azhwar refers to all the three charama slokas in the 3 lines of the pasuram and concluding with the fruit thats offered by perumal - வைகுந்தம் என்றருளும் !!

Such a delightful snippet,  however he is explaining this in thirumangai mannan thiruvadivaaram. So where is the connection of ஆறங்கம் ? Ideally it should be in a pathigam for சரணாகதி . Of course its there. In the கண்ணார் கடல் போல் pathigam for Annan perumal, kaliyan refers to the three vibhavatharams while surrendering....

1. குன்றால் குளிர் மாரி தடுத்து உகந்தானே

நெடியாய் அடியேன் இடர் நீக்கே - 

கானார் கரி கொம்பு ஒசித்த களிறே 

அடியேனுக்கு அருள் புரியாயே

கோலால் நிறை மேய்த்த எங்கோவலர் கோவே 

என் வல்வினை தீர்த்து அருளாயே  - to refer to சர்வ தர்மான் and Krishnavatar

2. கல்லால் அணை கட்டி உகந்தாய் 

எல்லா இடரும் கெடுமாறு அருளாயே  - to refer to சக்ருதேவ  and Ramaavatar

3. வராகம் அதாகி இம்மண்ணை இடந்தாய் 

அடியேற்கு அருளாயே  - to refer to ஸ்திதே மனசி and varahavatar

To make sure he covers all bases (after all he is kaliyan), he signs of with

பூவார் திருமாமகள் புல்கிய மார்பா 

ஆவா அடியான் இவன் என்று அருளாயே  ....
